PART 5 — Incomplete Sentences(101–130)
Directions: A word or phrase is missing in each of the sentences below. Four answer choices are given below each sentence. Select the best answer to complete the sentence. Then mark the letter (A), (B), (C), or (D) on your answer sheet.
101.The keynote speaker, _____ presentation on sustainable packaging drew the largest crowd of the conference, has been invited back next year.
Awho
Bwhom
Cwhich
Dwhose
解析 / Explanation
D. Why: The gap is followed by a noun (presentation) that belongs to the speaker, so the possessive relative pronoun “whose” is needed; “who” and “whom” cannot come directly before a noun like this.
102._____ the fabric shipment arrived two days late, the boutique was still able to launch its autumn collection on schedule.
ABecause
BUnless
CUntil
DAlthough
解析 / Explanation
D. Why: The two clauses contrast (late delivery vs. launch on schedule), so the concessive conjunction “Although” fits; “Because” would wrongly present the delay as the reason for the on-time launch.
103.Passengers were _____ to learn that the new express rail service would reduce their travel time by almost half.
Apleased
Bpleasing
Cplease
Dpleasure
解析 / Explanation
A. Why: People who feel an emotion are described with the -ed participle, so “pleased” is correct; “pleasing” describes the thing that causes the feeling.
104.Ms. Okafor has asked the design team to _____ the brochure layout before it is sent to the printer on Thursday.
Afinalize
Bfinal
Cfinally
Dfinality
解析 / Explanation
A. Why: After “to” in “asked … to ___ the layout”, a base-form verb that takes an object is required, so “finalize” is correct; the other choices are an adjective, an adverb and a noun.
105.Visitors may pay for parking at the machine next to the main entrance _____ through the Harbor Mall mobile application.
Anor
Bso
Cor
Dbut
解析 / Explanation
C. Why: The sentence presents two alternative ways to pay, so “or” is correct; “nor” requires a negative such as “neither”, and “but” and “so” do not express alternatives.
106.The list of approved suppliers _____ updated every quarter by the purchasing department and posted on the company intranet.
Aare
Bis
Cbe
Dbeing
解析 / Explanation
B. Why: The subject is the singular noun “list” (not “suppliers”), so the singular verb “is” is needed; “are” is the trap that agrees with the nearer plural noun.
107.Applicants for the regional sales manager position must submit _____ a cover letter and two letters of reference by March 15.
Aeither
Bneither
Cwhether
Dboth
解析 / Explanation
D. Why: The pair is joined by “and”, which goes with “both”; “either” pairs with “or” and “neither” with “nor”.
108.All safety inspections at the Dunmore Bridge construction site must _____ by a certified structural engineer.
Aconduct
Bconducting
Chave conducted
Dbe conducted
解析 / Explanation
D. Why: Inspections do not conduct anything; they are conducted by an engineer, so the passive “be conducted” is required after “must”.
109.The latest software update is expected to significantly _____ the time needed to process customer refund requests.
Ashorten
Bshort
Cshortly
Dshortness
解析 / Explanation
A. Why: After “to” (and the adverb “significantly”) a verb taking the object “the time” is needed, so “shorten” is correct.
110.Mr. Delgado usually prefers to book _____ own flights rather than use the travel agency recommended by the company.
Ahim
Bhe
Chis
Dhimself
解析 / Explanation
C. Why: Only a possessive adjective can come before “own flights”, so “his” is correct; “himself” is a reflexive pronoun and cannot modify a noun.
111.The hotel manager agreed _____ the conference room rental fee for groups of more than fifty guests.
Ato reduce
Breducing
Creduce
Dreduced
解析 / Explanation
A. Why: The verb “agree” is followed by a to-infinitive, so “to reduce” is correct; “agreed reducing” is ungrammatical.
112._____ employee who attends Friday’s data security workshop will receive a certificate of completion from the IT department.
AEvery
BAll
CMost
DSeveral
解析 / Explanation
A. Why: The noun “employee” is singular and the verb is “attends”, so “Every” is needed; “All”, “Most” and “Several” require a plural noun.
113.Varentis Pharmaceuticals has received _____ from national regulators to begin selling its new allergy medication next spring.
Aattendance
Bapproach
Capology
Dapproval
解析 / Explanation
D. Why: Companies receive “approval” from regulators before selling a product; “approach” looks similar but does not make sense here.
114.The marketing director praised the event team for its careful _____ to detail during the product launch in Seoul.
Aattentive
Battention
Cattentively
Dattend
解析 / Explanation
B. Why: After the adjective “careful” a noun is needed, and the fixed expression is “attention to detail”.
115.Tickets for the Milan Designers’ Showcase sold out _____ after they became available on the event’s Web site.
Aclosely
Bhighly
Cshortly
Dnearly
解析 / Explanation
C. Why: “Shortly after” means “soon after” and is a common collocation; “nearly after” and “closely after” are not idiomatic here.
116.The new staff lounge is located _____ the cafeteria and the mail room on the second floor of the building.
Aamong
Bbetween
Cacross
Dalong
解析 / Explanation
B. Why: “Between” is used with two things joined by “and” (the cafeteria and the mail room); “among” is used for three or more.
117.If the contractor _____ the flooring materials by Friday, the renovation of the showroom will be completed on time.
Adelivered
Bdelivers
Cwould deliver
Dhad delivered
解析 / Explanation
B. Why: The main clause uses “will be completed”, so this is a first conditional and the if-clause takes the simple present “delivers”.
118.Ms. Petrova’s proposal to open a second warehouse was _____ received by the board, which approved it without changes.
Aenthusiastic
Benthusiastically
Centhusiasm
Denthusiast
解析 / Explanation
B. Why: An adverb is needed to modify the verb “was received”, so “enthusiastically” is correct.
119.Since joining Carrow Engineering in 2019, Mr. Tanaka _____ three major bridge projects in the region.
Amanages
Bwill manage
Cis managing
Dhas managed
解析 / Explanation
D. Why: “Since + past point” describes a period continuing up to now, so the present perfect “has managed” is required.
120._____ heavy snowfall, all afternoon flights from Oslo to Helsinki have been delayed by at least two hours.
ADue to
BIn addition to
CInstead of
DIn spite of
解析 / Explanation
A. Why: The snowfall is the cause of the delays, so “Due to” fits; “In spite of” expresses the opposite relationship.
121.The newly renovated Harbor Hotel offers _____ more spacious guest rooms than any other hotel in the downtown area.
Avery
Btoo
Cconsiderably
Dsuch
解析 / Explanation
C. Why: Only a degree adverb such as "considerably" (or much, far) can strengthen a comparative like "more spacious"; "very more" and "too more" are ungrammatical, and "such" needs a noun phrase ("such spacious rooms").
122.Please _____ the attached invoice carefully and let us know if you have any questions about the charges.
Anotify
Breview
Creply
Drespond
解析 / Explanation
B. Why: You “review” a document; “reply” and “respond” need “to”, and you “notify” a person, not an invoice.
123.By the time the new factory in Monterrey opens next spring, the company _____ more than two hundred workers.
Ahas hired
Bhad hired
Chires
Dwill have hired
解析 / Explanation
D. Why: “By the time … next spring” refers to an action completed before a future point, so the future perfect “will have hired” is needed.
124.The quarterly sales figures _____ to all regional managers yesterday afternoon, along with the new targets.
Awere sent
Bsent
Chave sent
Dare sending
解析 / Explanation
A. Why: The figures are the things being sent, and “yesterday” requires the past, so the past passive “were sent” is correct.
125.The museum’s special exhibition on maritime trade will remain open _____ the end of October.
Aby
Buntil
Cwithin
Dfor
解析 / Explanation
B. Why: "Remain open" describes a continuing situation, so "until" marks when it ends. "By" is the trap: it gives a deadline for a completed action ("finish by the end of October"), not the end point of an ongoing state.
126.The organizing committee is considering _____ the annual logistics conference to a larger venue in Singapore.
Amoving
Bto move
Cmove
Dmoved
解析 / Explanation
A. Why: The verb “consider” is followed by a gerund, so “moving” is correct.
127.Assembly Line 2 has been running _____ since the technicians replaced its faulty sensors last week.
Areluctantly
Btightly
Cflawlessly
Dconsiderably
解析 / Explanation
C. Why: A machine that has been repaired is now running "flawlessly" (without any problems). "Reluctantly" describes a person's attitude, and "tightly" and "considerably" do not describe how a machine operates.
128.Online orders placed before noon are _____ for same-day delivery to addresses within the city limits.
Acapable
Bresponsible
Celigible
Dreliable
解析 / Explanation
C. Why: The collocation is “eligible for” (meeting the conditions for something); “capable” takes “of”, and “responsible” and “reliable” do not fit the meaning.
129.The client requested several changes to the floor plan; _____ , the architects revised the drawings within a week.
Anevertheless
Botherwise
Caccordingly
Dinstead
解析 / Explanation
C. Why: The revision is the natural result of the request, so “accordingly” (= as a result) fits; “nevertheless” would signal a contrast.
130.The survey results show that most customers find the new online checkout process much more _____ than the old one.
Aexhaustive
Bintuitive
Ccooperative
Dtentative
解析 / Explanation
B. Why: A checkout process that customers find easy to understand and use is "intuitive." "Exhaustive" (thorough, complete), "cooperative" (willing to help) and "tentative" (not certain) do not describe how easy a process is to use.
PART 6 — Text Completion(131–146)
Directions: Read the texts that follow. A word, phrase, or sentence is missing in parts of each text. Four answer choices for each question are given below the text. Select the best answer to complete the text. Then mark the letter (A), (B), (C), or (D) on your answer sheet.
Questions 131–134 refer to the following instructions.
Expo-Lite Portable Display Stand — Setup GuideThank you for purchasing the Expo-Lite Portable Display Stand. Before you begin, check that all of the parts shown on the enclosed parts sheet are in the carrying case.
131
any pieces are missing, please contact our customer care team at 1-800-555-0143 before attempting to assemble the stand.
First, unfold the aluminum frame and lock each of the four hinges into place. Next, attach the printed fabric panel
132
it firmly against the hook-and-loop strips that run along the top and side bars. Then slide the two lighting arms into the slots at the top of the frame. The lights
133
by the rechargeable battery pack included with the stand, so no electrical outlet is needed at your event.
The entire stand can be set up by one person in less than ten minutes.
134
131.
AIf
BUnless
CAlthough
DWhether
解析 / Explanation
A. Why: The sentence describes a condition (pieces missing) and what to do in that case, so “If” is correct; “Unless” reverses the meaning and “Although” signals contrast.
132.
Apress
Bpressed
Cby pressing
Dto be pressed
解析 / Explanation
C. Why: “By + -ing” explains how the panel is attached, so “by pressing” is correct; the base form “press” would create a second main verb without a conjunction.
133.
Apowered
Bwill power
Care powered
Dhave powered
解析 / Explanation
C. Why: The lights receive power from the battery pack, so the passive “are powered” is needed; the present tense matches the general description in the rest of the guide.
134.
AAn electrician will need to connect the lights to an outlet.
BTwo or more people are required to lift the frame safely.
CThe fabric panel should be attached before the frame is unfolded.
DTo take it down, simply follow these steps in reverse order.
解析 / Explanation
D. Why: After explaining how to set the stand up, the guide logically ends by explaining how to take it down. Each distractor contradicts the guide: it says no outlet is needed, that one person can set the stand up, and that the frame is unfolded first.
Questions 135–138 refer to the following e-mail.
Dear Ms. Suzuki,
Thank you for choosing Threadworks Tailoring for your custom suit. I am writing to let you know that the charcoal wool fabric you selected is
135
out of stock at our supplier in Leeds. The supplier expects to receive a new shipment in about three weeks.
136
, your suit would be ready for collection on 20 June instead of 1 June as originally planned.
If this delay is inconvenient, we would be happy to make your suit from a similar fabric produced by another mill.
137
Each of them has the same weight and finish as your original choice, and there would be no change in price.
Please let me know which option you
138
by Friday so that we can proceed with your order.
Best regards,
Liam O’Connell
Threadworks Tailoring
135.
Atemporarily
Btemporary
Ctemporal
Dtemporariness
解析 / Explanation
A. Why: An adverb is needed to modify the adjective phrase “out of stock”, so “temporarily” is correct; the next sentence (a new shipment in three weeks) confirms the shortage is not permanent.
136.
AAs a result
BIn contrast
CFor instance
DEven so
解析 / Explanation
A. Why: The later completion date is a consequence of the fabric shortage described before it, so “As a result” is the logical connector; “Even so” would signal an unexpected contrast.
137.
AUnfortunately, no similar fabrics are available at this time.
BI have attached photographs of three fabrics in the same shade.
CMany customers prefer lighter fabrics for summer events.
DYour measurements were taken by our senior tailor.
解析 / Explanation
B. Why: The next sentence begins "Each of them", which needs a plural referent; the photographs of three alternative fabrics provide it and follow naturally from the offer of a similar fabric. (A) contradicts that offer.
138.
Aprefers
Bpreferring
Cpreference
Dprefer
解析 / Explanation
D. Why: The subject of the clause is “you”, so the base present form “prefer” is required; “prefers” is for third-person singular subjects and “preference” is a noun.
Questions 139–142 refer to the following notice.
Notice to All Tenants of the Wexford Business TowerPlease be advised that both passenger elevators in the Wexford Business Tower will be out of service from 7:00 A.M. on Saturday, 8 June, until 6:00 P.M. on Sunday, 9 June. During this time, technicians
139
new digital control systems in both elevator cars. The upgrade will reduce waiting times and make the elevators more energy efficient.
We understand that this work may cause some
140
for tenants who plan to work in the building over the weekend. The stairways will remain open at all times, and the freight elevator at the rear of the building will remain
141
for tenants who need to move heavy equipment or deliveries.
142
Thank you for your patience while we improve the building’s facilities.
— Wexford Property Management
139.
Ainstalled
Bhave installed
Cwill install
Dhad installed
解析 / Explanation
C. Why: The work takes place on dates that have not yet arrived (the elevators “will be out of service”), so the future “will install” is required.
140.
Ainconvenient
Binconveniently
Cinconvenience
Dinconvenienced
解析 / Explanation
C. Why: After the determiner “some”, a noun is needed as the object of “cause”, so “inconvenience” is correct.
141.
Aabsent
Bavailable
Cpotential
Dformer
解析 / Explanation
B. Why: The freight elevator can still be used, so it will “remain available”; “potential” and “former” do not describe something that can currently be used.
142.
AHowever, it must be reserved in advance through the management office.
BThe new control systems were installed last weekend.
CTenants are reminded that smoking is not permitted in the lobby.
DThe tower was completed more than thirty years ago.
解析 / Explanation
A. Why: “It” refers to the freight elevator mentioned just before, and “However” adds a condition on its use; the sentence about systems installed “last weekend” contradicts the future timing of the work.
Questions 143–146 refer to the following memo.
Beginning Monday, 10 February, all visitors to the Halvorsen Pharmaceuticals research campus must be
143
by an employee at all times. Visitors will also be required to sign in at the main reception desk and to wear a visitor badge
144
their stay. Badges must be returned to reception when visitors leave the campus.
These measures are being introduced to protect the confidential research data stored in our laboratories.
145
Similar procedures have already been adopted at our production site in Rotterdam, and contractors who work on campus regularly will be issued long-term passes.
If you are expecting a guest, please notify reception at least one working day in advance so that a badge can be prepared.
146
you have any questions about the new procedures, contact the Facilities Office at extension 4410.
143.
Aaccompany
Baccompanying
Caccompaniment
Daccompanied
解析 / Explanation
D. Why: After “must be”, the past participle forms the passive: visitors are accompanied by an employee, so “accompanied” is correct.
144.
Aamong
Bthroughout
Cbeside
Donto
解析 / Explanation
B. Why: “Throughout their stay” means during the whole visit; “among”, “beside” and “onto” do not express duration.
145.
AOur cafeteria menu will change next month.
BVisitors were welcome to tour the laboratories freely.
CResearch data can be downloaded from our public Web site.
DThey will also bring us in line with the latest industry standards.
解析 / Explanation
D. Why: “They” refers to “these measures”, and “also” adds a second reason for introducing them; the sentence about public research data contradicts the goal of protecting confidential data.
146.
AWere
BShould
CUnless
DHad
解析 / Explanation
B. Why: “Should you have any questions” is an inverted conditional meaning “If you have any questions”; “Were” and “Had” cannot be followed by the base verb “have” here, and “Unless” reverses the meaning.
PART 7 — Reading Comprehension(147–200)
Directions: In this part you will read a selection of texts, such as magazine and newspaper articles, e-mails, and instant messages. Each text or set of texts is followed by several questions. Select the best answer for each question and mark the letter (A), (B), (C), or (D) on your answer sheet.
Questions 147–148 refer to the following text-message-chain.
Diego Ramírez 9:12 A.M.: Hi Aisha, I’m at the Lakeview Convention Center setting up our booth. The banners haven’t turned up.
Aisha Rahman 9:14 A.M.: That’s strange. The print shop promised they’d be delivered straight to the loading dock this morning.
Diego Ramírez 9:15 A.M.: I asked the dock manager. Nothing has come in under our company name.
Aisha Rahman 9:17 A.M.: Let me call the print shop now.
Aisha Rahman 9:26 A.M.: OK, their driver is stuck in traffic on the ring road. He should be with you by 10:30.
Diego Ramírez 9:27 A.M.: The doors open to the public at 11:00.
Aisha Rahman 9:28 A.M.: I know it’s tight. Could you get the tables and product samples arranged in the meantime?
Diego Ramírez 9:29 A.M.: Already on it.
147.What problem does Mr. Ramírez report?
AA booth was assigned to another company.
BSome product samples were damaged.
CSome items have not been delivered.
DThe loading dock has been closed.
解析 / Explanation
C. Why: Mr. Ramírez says the banners “haven’t turned up” and nothing has come in at the dock; the loading dock is mentioned but is not closed.
148.At 9:29 A.M., what does Mr. Ramírez most likely mean when he writes, “Already on it”?
AHe has already called the print shop himself.
BHe is driving on the ring road.
CHe has already hung the banners.
DHe has started preparing the display area.
解析 / Explanation
D. Why: He is answering Ms. Rahman’s request to arrange the tables and samples, so he means he is already doing that; Ms. Rahman, not he, called the print shop, and the banners have not arrived.
Questions 149–150 refer to the following letter.
Dear Ms. Lindqvist,
Thank you for supporting the Aldermoor Museum of Art as a member for the past three years. Your annual membership will expire on 30 April. Renewing is easy: simply complete the enclosed form and return it in the prepaid envelope, or renew online at www.aldermoorart.org/members.
This year, members who renew before 31 March will also receive two complimentary guest passes, which may be used to bring friends or family to any of our regular exhibitions. As always, members enjoy free admission, a 10 percent discount at the museum shop and café, and invitations to preview evenings for new exhibitions. Our spring preview, for “Light and Water: Nordic Painters 1880–1920,” will take place on 14 May.
We hope to continue welcoming you to the museum in the year ahead.
Sincerely,
Martin Oyelaran
Membership Coordinator
149.Why was the letter sent?
ATo announce the opening of a café
BTo thank a donor for a gift
CTo request payment of an overdue fee
DTo encourage a member to renew
解析 / Explanation
D. Why: The letter reminds Ms. Lindqvist that her membership expires on 30 April and explains how to renew; the café and exhibition are mentioned only as membership benefits.
150.According to the letter, what will Ms. Lindqvist receive if she renews by 31 March?
AA gift from the museum shop
BA ticket to the spring preview
CA reduced membership fee
DFree admission for two visitors
解析 / Explanation
D. Why: Members who renew before 31 March get “two complimentary guest passes” for friends or family, which means free admission for two visitors. The letter mentions only a shop discount, not a gift, and preview invitations are a benefit all members already receive.
Questions 151–152 refer to the following press-release.
Quillsoft Launches ShiftMate Scheduling AppTORONTO (2 September) — Quillsoft Inc. today announced the launch of ShiftMate, a scheduling application designed for restaurants, retail stores, and other small businesses with hourly staff. ShiftMate allows managers to build weekly schedules in minutes and lets employees exchange shifts with coworkers directly from their phones, subject to a manager’s approval.
“Small business owners told us they were spending up to six hours a week on staff schedules,” said Quillsoft CEO Daniel Hoffmann. “ShiftMate reduces that time dramatically.”
The app was tested for eight months by more than 300 businesses across Canada before its public release. ShiftMate is free for teams of up to ten employees; larger teams pay $3 per employee per month. It is available now for both major mobile platforms, and a desktop version is planned for early next year.
151.What is indicated about ShiftMate?
AIt is intended mainly for large corporations.
BIt lets workers trade shifts with one another.
CIt can currently be used on desktop computers.
DIt was developed in less than a week.
解析 / Explanation
B. Why: The release says employees can “exchange shifts with coworkers”; the desktop version is only planned, and “six hours a week” refers to time owners spend on schedules.
152.What is stated about the price of ShiftMate?
ASmall teams can use it at no cost.
BCharges depend on the number of hours worked.
CRestaurants receive a special discount.
DThe monthly fee will increase next year.
解析 / Explanation
A. Why: ShiftMate “is free for teams of up to ten employees”; larger teams pay per employee, not per hour worked.

DSome replacement parts arrived late.
解析 / Explanation
A. Why: The motor is making a grinding noise and has stopped twice; parts are mentioned only as having been ordered, not as arriving late.
154.What is suggested about Line 4?
AIt is being repaired by Mr. Watanabe.
BIt has more workers than usual today.
CIt will be shut down in the evening.
DIt has a new conveyor motor.
解析 / Explanation
B. Why: Four operators from Line 3 “have been reassigned to Line 4”, so Line 4 has extra staff; the repair concerns Line 3, not Line 4.
Questions 155–157 refer to the following review.
Old Town Food Walk, Lisbon ★★★★☆My colleagues and I booked this three-hour tour on the last evening of a week-long business trip, and it turned out to be the highlight of our stay. Our guide, Rui, met us at the fountain in Praça da Figueira at exactly 6:00 P.M. and led us to six family-run establishments, where we sampled everything from grilled sardines to custard tarts. Rui clearly knew the owners personally, and his stories about the history of each neighborhood made the walks between stops go by quickly.
My only complaint concerns the booking information. The company’s Web site stated that drinks were included, but at two of the stops we had to pay for our own beverages. When I e-mailed the company afterward, a representative apologized and explained that the site had not been updated since the tour changed its menu. She offered me a 20 percent discount on a future tour, which was a kind gesture, although I am not sure when I will next be in Lisbon.
A word of advice: wear comfortable shoes, as some of the streets are steep and cobbled. I would recommend this tour to anyone visiting the city.
155.Why was the reviewer in Lisbon?
AShe was taking a cooking course.
BShe was visiting family members.
CShe was leading a tour group.
DShe was on a business trip.
解析 / Explanation
D. Why: She booked the tour “on the last evening of a week-long business trip”; she joined a tour but did not lead one.
156.What is indicated about Rui?
AHe owns one of the restaurants on the tour.
BHe arrived late at the meeting point.
CHe advised the group to wear comfortable shoes.
DHe knows the owners of the businesses visited.
解析 / Explanation
D. Why: The reviewer says Rui “clearly knew the owners personally”; he met the group “at exactly 6:00 P.M.”, and the shoe advice comes from the reviewer herself.
157.What did the reviewer complain about?
AThe distances between stops were too long.
BInformation online was out of date.
CThe food portions were too small.
DThe company refused to give her a refund.
解析 / Explanation
B. Why: The Web site said drinks were included but had “not been updated”; the company actually offered her a discount rather than refusing her.
Questions 158–160 refer to the following article.
Skyreach Air to Expand Regional NetworkPERTH (18 August) — Skyreach Air, a regional carrier based in Perth, will add four new routes to its network beginning in November, the airline announced on Monday. The new services will connect Perth with Geraldton, Esperance, Broome, and Kalgoorlie, towns that until now have been served mainly by small charter operators.
To operate the routes, Skyreach has leased three turboprop aircraft, each seating 72 passengers. The airline is also hiring 40 new staff members, including pilots, cabin crew, and ground personnel. According to chief executive Olivia Brennan, most of the new ground staff will work at the regional airports rather than in Perth.
“Residents of these communities have been asking for affordable, scheduled flights for years,” Ms. Brennan said. “Many of them travel to Perth regularly for business meetings, university classes, and family visits.”
Introductory fares start at $129 one way and will go on sale on the airline’s Web site on 1 September. Flights to Broome will run daily, while the other three routes will operate four times a week.
158.What is the article mainly about?
AAn airline’s plans to offer new routes
BThe opening of a regional airport
CA merger between two airlines
DA change in airfare regulations
解析 / Explanation
A. Why: The article reports that Skyreach Air will add four new routes starting in November; regional airports are mentioned, but none is opening.
159.What is indicated about the new ground staff positions?
AThey require pilot training.
BMany of them will be based outside Perth.
CThey are temporary positions.
DThey will be filled by charter operators.
解析 / Explanation
B. Why: Ms. Brennan says most new ground staff “will work at the regional airports rather than in Perth”; pilots are a separate group of new hires.
160.According to the article, what will happen on 1 September?
AThe new flights will begin operating.
BThree new aircraft will be delivered to Perth.
CTickets will become available for purchase.
DDaily service to Broome will start.
解析 / Explanation
C. Why: Fares “will go on sale” on 1 September; the flights themselves begin in November.

161.What is the purpose of the coupon?
ATo announce the opening of a new store
BTo advertise a clothing design contest
CTo promote a limited-time discount
DTo offer free alterations to all customers
解析 / Explanation
C. Why: The coupon gives 25% off during 1–15 October only; free alterations are for Style Club members, not all customers.
162.How can a customer receive a free bag?
ABy signing up for the Style Club in a store
BBy entering a special code at online checkout
CBy making a purchase above a certain amount
DBy buying any item of designer footwear
解析 / Explanation
C. Why: The tote bag is given to shoppers who “spend $150 or more in a single purchase”; the code is how to use the discount online.
163.What is NOT eligible for the 25 percent discount?
AA gift card
BA full-priced coat
CAn online order
DA purchase on 15 October
解析 / Explanation
A. Why: Gift cards are listed among the exclusions; online orders (with the code) and purchases through 15 October are valid.
Questions 164–167 refer to the following online-chat-discussion.
Mei Lin Zhou 2:03 P.M.: Quick update on the Harborview retreat for Fenwick Logistics. The client just told me they’ll have 85 attendees, not 60.
Samuel Adeyemi 2:04 P.M.: That’s a big jump. The Tern Room at the Harborview seats 70 at most.
Clara Novak 2:05 P.M.: The Osprey Hall is free that weekend — I checked the venue calendar this morning. It holds 120.
Mei Lin Zhou 2:06 P.M.: Is the price very different?
Clara Novak 2:08 P.M.: It’s about $900 more for the two days, but the rate includes a projector and sound system. We were going to rent those separately for around $600.
Rajesh Iyer 2:09 P.M.: So the real difference is only about $300. I’d say that’s a no-brainer.
Mei Lin Zhou 2:10 P.M.: Agreed. I’ll need the client’s approval first, though, since it goes over the budget we quoted them.
Samuel Adeyemi 2:11 P.M.: What about lunches? The catering order was for 60 people.
Rajesh Iyer 2:12 P.M.: I’ll call Bayleaf Catering and find out whether they can serve 85 with the same menu.
Mei Lin Zhou 2:13 P.M.: Thanks, Rajesh. Clara, could you put a hold on the Osprey Hall until Friday?
Clara Novak 2:14 P.M.: Will do.
164.What is the discussion mainly about?
AChoosing a new catering company
BAdjusting plans for a larger group
CReviewing a client’s complaint
DPreparing a sales presentation
解析 / Explanation
B. Why: The team is reacting to the news that attendance has risen from 60 to 85; Bayleaf Catering is already their caterer, so they are not choosing a new one.
165.What is suggested about the Osprey Hall?
AIt holds fewer people than the Tern Room does.
BIt has already been reserved by another group.
CIts rental price includes audiovisual equipment.
DIt is located in a different hotel from the Tern Room.
解析 / Explanation
C. Why: Ms. Novak says the Osprey Hall rate “includes a projector and sound system”; it holds 120, more than the Tern Room’s 70, and it is free that weekend.
166.At 2:09 P.M., what does Mr. Iyer mean when he writes, “I’d say that’s a no-brainer”?
AHe does not understand the price difference.
BHe expects the client to refuse the proposed change.
CHe needs more time to make a decision.
DHe thinks the room change is clearly a good idea.
解析 / Explanation
D. Why: Having worked out that the real extra cost is only about $300, he means the choice is obvious, and Ms. Zhou replies “Agreed”.
167.What will Mr. Iyer most likely do next?
AContact a food service provider
BReserve a room at the Harborview
CSend a revised budget to the client
DRent a sound system
解析 / Explanation
A. Why: Mr. Iyer says he will call Bayleaf Catering about serving 85 people; Ms. Novak, not Mr. Iyer, is asked to hold the room.
Questions 168–171 refer to the following notice.
Notice to Riverside Business Park TenantsBeginning Monday, 6 October, the east parking structure at Riverside Business Park will undergo resurfacing work.
[1]
The project will be carried out in three phases, and only one level will be closed at a time so that most parking spaces remain available.
Phase 1 (6–10 October): Level 1 closed. Phase 2 (13–24 October): Level 2 closed. Phase 3 (27 October–31 October): Rooftop level closed. During Phase 3, any vehicle left on the rooftop overnight will be towed at the owner’s expense.
[2]
Tenants who normally park on a closed level may use the west parking structure at no additional charge.
[3]
Please display your Riverside parking permit on your dashboard so that security staff can identify your vehicle.
Contractors will work from 7:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. on weekdays. Some noise is to be expected, particularly in Building C, which is closest to the east structure.
[4]
Questions may be directed to the property management office at 555-0187 or parking@riversidebp.com.
168.What is the purpose of the notice?
ATo announce a new parking fee
BTo inform tenants about upcoming repair work
CTo introduce a new security team
DTo request feedback on a proposed building design
解析 / Explanation
B. Why: The notice explains the resurfacing of the east parking structure and its schedule; the west structure can be used “at no additional charge”, so no fee is announced.
169.When will the rooftop level be closed?
ABeginning on 6 October
BBeginning on 13 October
CBeginning on 27 October
DBeginning on 31 October
解析 / Explanation
C. Why: Phase 3, when the rooftop level is closed, runs from 27 to 31 October; 31 October is the last day, not the start.
170.What are tenants asked to do?
ALeave their cars on the rooftop overnight
BPay to use the west parking structure
CWork from home during Phase 1
DShow a parking permit in their vehicles
解析 / Explanation
D. Why: Tenants are asked to “display your Riverside parking permit on your dashboard”; cars left on the rooftop overnight will actually be towed.
171.In which of the positions marked [1] , [2] , [3] , and [4] does the following sentence best belong? “The structure’s surface has not been replaced since the park opened in 2004.”
A[1]
B[2]
C[3]
D[4]
解析 / Explanation
A. Why: The sentence explains why resurfacing is needed, so it fits right after the announcement of the resurfacing work at [1]; it has no connection to towing, free parking or noise at the other positions.
Questions 172–175 refer to the following advertisement.

172.What is being advertised?
AShared workspace rentals
BA ferry service to the harbor
CFurniture for home offices
DA catering service for meetings
解析 / Explanation
A. Why: The advertisement offers desks and offices for monthly rent in a coworking space; the ferry terminal is mentioned only to describe the location.
173.What is indicated about the Customs House?
AIt was constructed only last year.
BIt is next to the city's main train station.
CIt is open to members on weekdays only.
DIt is close to a transportation facility.
解析 / Explanation
D. Why: It is “a five-minute walk from the ferry terminal”; the building is “restored” (not new), and Dedicated Desk members have 24-hour access.
174.What is included in the Flex Desk plan?
AA cabinet that can be locked
BAccess at any hour of the day
CSome free use of a meeting room
DA private office for small teams
解析 / Explanation
C. Why: Flex Desk members get “three hours of free meeting-room time every month”; the locking cabinet and 24-hour access belong to the Dedicated Desk plan.
175.In which of the positions marked [1] , [2] , [3] , and [4] does the following sentence best belong? “Each office also comes with its own whiteboard and phone line.”
A[1]
B[2]
C[3]
D[4]
解析 / Explanation
B. Why: “Each office” refers to the lockable offices described in the Private Office plan, which comes right before [2]; the meeting rooms at [3] are not offices.
Questions 176–180 refer to the following e-mail.
Dear Dr. Haidari,
Thank you again for agreeing to speak at this year’s International Pharmaceutical Packaging Forum in Vienna. Your session, “Reducing Plastic in Blister Packs,” is scheduled for Thursday, 22 May, at 10:30 A.M. in Hall B. Each speaker is allotted 40 minutes, including 10 minutes for questions from the audience.
As agreed, the Forum will cover your accommodation for the nights of 21 and 22 May at the Hotel Lindenhof, a short walk from the conference center. Speakers are responsible for booking their own flights; however, we will reimburse economy-class airfare of up to €400 upon receipt of your ticket invoice.
Please send your presentation slides to me by 12 May so that our technical team can load them onto the computer in the hall. If you require any additional equipment, let me know as soon as possible.
Finally, all speakers are warmly invited to the opening reception, which will be held at the conference center on the evening of 21 May from 7:00 to 9:00 P.M. Please tell me by 12 May whether you plan to attend.
Best regards,
Jonas Becker
Speaker Coordinator
Dear Mr. Becker,
Thank you for the details. I have booked my flights and attached the invoice; the round-trip economy fare came to €465. I understand that the Forum’s contribution is limited.
I have one request. My colleague Tobias Lund, who led the laboratory testing described in my presentation, will also be attending the Forum. Would it be possible for him to join me on stage for the question period? He can answer technical questions far better than I can. He has already registered as a regular attendee, so he has his own conference pass.
In addition, I plan to show a short video clip during my talk, so I will need speakers connected to the hall computer. My slides will reach you before your deadline. Unfortunately, because of a prior commitment, I will not be able to arrive in Vienna until the evening before my session. I am afraid I will probably miss most of the opening reception as a result, but I would be glad to join if my flight lands on time.
Kind regards,
Farida Haidari
176.What is the main purpose of the first e-mail?
ATo invite Dr. Haidari to submit a proposal
BTo announce a change of venue for the conference
CTo provide details about a speaking engagement
DTo confirm a flight reservation
解析 / Explanation
C. Why: Mr. Becker gives the time, room, length, hotel and slide deadline for Dr. Haidari’s session; he says speakers book their own flights, so he is not confirming one.
177.In the first e-mail, the word “cover” in paragraph 2, line 1, is closest in meaning to
Ahide
Bpay for
Creport on
Dprotect
解析 / Explanation
B. Why: “The Forum will cover your accommodation” means the Forum will pay the hotel costs; “hide” and “protect” are other meanings of “cover” that do not fit here.
178.How much of Dr. Haidari’s airfare will most likely be reimbursed?
A€40
B€65
C€465
D€400
解析 / Explanation
D. Why: Her fare was €465 (second e-mail), but the Forum reimburses airfare “up to €400” (first e-mail), so she will receive €400; €465 is the full fare.
179.What does Dr. Haidari ask for?
AAn additional night at the conference hotel
BA later time slot for her session
CPermission for a coworker to assist her
DAssistance with booking a return flight
解析 / Explanation
C. Why: She asks whether Tobias Lund can "join me on stage for the question period" because he can answer technical questions better. She has already booked her own flights, so (D) is wrong.
180.What is suggested about Dr. Haidari?
AShe will miss the deadline for sending slides.
BShe will present for more than 40 minutes.
CShe will arrive in Vienna on 21 May.
DShe carried out the laboratory testing herself.
解析 / Explanation
C. Why: Her session is on 22 May (first e-mail) and she will arrive “the evening before my session” (second e-mail), so she arrives on 21 May; the testing was led by Mr. Lund.
Questions 181–185 refer to the following advertisement.
Blue Fjord Boat Tours — BergenSee Norway’s spectacular coastline from the water! All tours depart from Pier 7 at Bryggen Harbor. Our experienced guides provide commentary in English, Norwegian, and German, and each boat carries a maximum of 60 passengers.
Hello,
I am organizing an outing for our company’s sales team, which will be in Bergen for our annual regional sales meeting later this month. There will be twelve of us, all adults. We would like to take a tour on Saturday, 26 July. We have a dinner reservation at 18:30 that evening, so we must be back at the harbor by 17:00 at the latest. A meal on board would be ideal, as it would save us from having to find a restaurant during the day. One of our colleagues does not eat fish, so please let me know whether other meal options are available. Our hotel is near the fish market, so we can easily walk to the pier.
Could you please confirm availability and the total price? Also, several team members are worried about getting cold out on the water. Should they bring extra clothing? Finally, if the weather is poor on the day, we would prefer to be moved to another tour rather than receive a refund.
Thank you,
Anjali Menon
Karsvik Software AS
181.What is indicated about Blue Fjord Boat Tours?
AIts tours leave from several different piers.
BSome of its tours do not run every day.
CChildren under 15 travel free of charge.
DIt does not give refunds for canceled tours.
解析 / Explanation
B. Why: The Sunset Cruise runs only Friday to Sunday and the Island Hopper only three days a week; all tours leave from Pier 7, and only children under 4 travel free.
182.Why will Ms. Menon’s team be in Bergen?
ATo go on a vacation with their families
BTo meet with a potential new client
CTo attend an international trade show
DTo take part in a company meeting
解析 / Explanation
D. Why: Ms. Menon writes that the team will be in Bergen “for our annual regional sales meeting”; the boat tour is only an outing during the trip.
183.Which tour will Ms. Menon most likely book?
AHarbor Highlights
BFjord Explorer
CSunset Cruise
DIsland Hopper
解析 / Explanation
D. Why: She wants a Saturday tour with a meal that returns by 17:00; the Island Hopper runs on Saturdays at 10:00, lasts five hours (back at 15:00) and includes lunch, while the Sunset Cruise leaves at 19:00.
184.What is suggested about Ms. Menon’s group?
AIt is eligible for a reduced price.
BIt must pay a deposit in advance.
CIt includes several children.
DIt will have dinner on the boat.
解析 / Explanation
A. Why: Her group of twelve is booking on 3 July for 26 July, more than a week ahead, so it meets the conditions for the 15% group discount; everyone in the group is an adult.
185.What will Ms. Menon’s team members most likely be told about staying warm?
AThey should bring their own blankets.
BProtective clothing will be provided for them.
CThe boat has a heated dining room.
DThe tour will be moved to a more sheltered route.
解析 / Explanation
B. Why: The advertisement states that “blankets and waterproof jackets are provided on every tour”, which answers her question about extra clothing.
Questions 186–190 refer to the following memo.
The second-quarter planning meeting will be held on Wednesday, 19 March, from 9:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M. in Conference Room 4. Please note that this is a change from our usual location, as the boardroom is being repainted that week. Coffee and tea will be available in the room from 8:45 A.M.
Each department head should be prepared to give a brief update on first-quarter results. In addition, Paulo Mendes from our Singapore facility will join us by video call to discuss the new packaging line that will be installed there in May. Because of the time difference, his presentation has been placed in the first slot after the break. He will also answer questions about the equipment suppliers chosen for the project.
The draft agenda is attached. If you would like to add or change an item, please contact my assistant, Yara Haddad, by 14 March. Department heads who cannot attend in person should arrange for a deputy to present their department’s information.
Lunch will be served in the staff dining room immediately after the meeting. Please also let Yara know by 14 March if you have any dietary requirements.

Questions and closing remarks
Helena Sørensen
Each department head will have about five minutes for his or her Q1 update. Presenters who wish to show slides should send them to Yara Haddad by 17 March.
Hi Yara,
I have just learned that I need to be at our supplier’s plant in Gdańsk on 19 March to sign the final contracts, so I will not be able to attend the planning meeting. My deputy, Lena Fischer, has agreed to present the contract renewals in my place. Lena has worked on these negotiations with me since January, so she is fully familiar with the details, and I will send her my notes and the latest supplier figures by Friday. Could you please update the presenter’s name on the agenda?
Lena also pointed out that the contract discussion may need more than the 30 minutes currently scheduled, since two of our largest suppliers have proposed significant price increases. Would you ask Ms. Sørensen whether the item could be extended, perhaps by shortening the closing remarks? I will be back in the office on Monday, 24 March, if she would like to discuss the contracts with me directly.
Thanks,
Ibrahim
186.According to the memo, why has the meeting location changed?
AA room is undergoing maintenance work.
BMore participants are expected than usual.
CSpecial video equipment is required.
DThe boardroom has been reserved by visitors.
解析 / Explanation
A. Why: The memo says the meeting moved because “the boardroom is being repainted that week”; the video call is not given as the reason.
187.What is indicated about Mr. Mendes?
AHe works in a different time zone.
BHe will visit the head office in May.
CHe is responsible for Human Resources.
DHe will give his presentation before the break.
解析 / Explanation
A. Why: His slot was chosen “because of the time difference” with Singapore; he presents after the break, and the packaging line (not a visit) is planned for May.
188.What is suggested about Mr. Kaya’s request?
AIt was submitted before the deadline.
BIt was sent to the wrong person.
CIt concerns the Singapore facility.
DIt has already been approved by Ms. Sørensen.
解析 / Explanation
A. Why: The memo asks for changes to reach Ms. Haddad by 14 March, and Mr. Kaya wrote to her on 12 March; he still asks her to check with Ms. Sørensen, so it has not been approved.
189.Who will most likely speak at 10:00 A.M. on 19 March?
AHelena Sørensen
BIbrahim Kaya
CGrace Adjei
DLena Fischer
解析 / Explanation
D. Why: The agenda lists contract renewals at 10:00, and Mr. Kaya’s e-mail says Lena Fischer will present that item in his place because he will be in Gdańsk.
190.Why does Mr. Kaya suggest extending one agenda item?
AA presenter will be joining by video call.
BSome cost increases need to be discussed.
CThe break has been canceled.
DA supplier will attend the meeting.
解析 / Explanation
B. Why: He explains that two large suppliers “have proposed significant price increases”, so the discussion may need more time; the video call concerns Mr. Mendes.
Questions 191–195 refer to the following article.
Express Trains Coming to NorthlineWESTBRIDGE (4 August) — Commuters on the Northline rail route will soon have a faster option. Beginning Monday, 1 September, Westbridge Regional Transit (WRT) will introduce express trains that stop only at Harlow, Fenton Park, and Central Station, cutting the journey from Harlow to the city center from 58 minutes to 41.
The express trains will run during the morning and evening rush hours on weekdays only. Regular trains, which stop at all eleven stations on the line, will continue to operate throughout the day.
WRT spokesperson Chidi Okonkwo said the change responds to rapid population growth in Harlow, where several large housing developments have been completed over the past two years. “Passenger numbers at Harlow station have doubled since 2023,” he said.
Tickets for express trains will cost the same as those for regular service. In addition, WRT will launch a new monthly pass priced at $140, allowing unlimited travel on both express and regular trains. Riders who buy the pass before 1 September will receive a 10 percent discount.
The express service is the first stage of a larger upgrade of the Northline. WRT also plans to expand the car park at Harlow station by 150 spaces by the end of the year and to lengthen the platforms at Fenton Park by 2027 so that longer trains can be used.
Hello,
I live in Harlow and work in an office near Central Station. My workday begins at 8:15 A.M. At the moment, I take the 6:55 regular train, which gets me there on time but means getting up very early. I was delighted to read about the new express service in the newspaper, and several of my neighbors are also planning to switch to it.
I have two questions. First, will I be allowed to bring my folding bicycle on express trains, as I currently do on regular trains? Second, I bought a regular monthly ticket on 1 August that is valid until the end of this month. If I purchase the new pass for September today, will I still receive the discount?
Thank you,
Rosa Villanueva
Northline Express — Weekday Morning Timetable (from 1 September)Evening express trains depart Central Station for Harlow at 5:10, 5:40, 6:10, and 6:40 P.M. Express trains do not stop at Millbrook, Ashford Road, or any other intermediate station. Tickets and monthly passes can be purchased from station ticket machines or through the WRT mobile app. Times are subject to change; please check wrt-transit.com for the latest information.
191.What is the article mainly about?
AThe construction of new housing in Harlow
BThe opening of a new station on the Northline
CThe introduction of a faster rail service
DAn increase in fares for regular trains
解析 / Explanation
C. Why: The article announces express trains that cut the Harlow–city center trip to 41 minutes; housing growth is only the reason, and fares stay the same.
192.According to the article, why is WRT making the change?
ATo reduce the costs of operating the line
BTo replace trains that are getting old
CTo serve a growing number of passengers
DTo connect the Northline to an airport
解析 / Explanation
C. Why: Mr. Okonkwo says the change responds to population growth in Harlow, where passenger numbers “have doubled since 2023”.
193.Which express train would allow Ms. Villanueva to leave Harlow later than she does now and still arrive before her workday begins?
AE103
BE101
CE105
DE107
解析 / Explanation
A. Why: She now leaves at 6:55 and starts work at 8:15 (e-mail); E103 leaves Harlow at 7:15 and reaches Central Station at 7:56 (schedule). E101 leaves earlier than 6:55, and E105 arrives at 8:26, after her workday begins.
194.If Ms. Villanueva buys a September pass on the day she sends her e-mail, how much will she most likely pay?
A$140
B$126
C$112
D$154
解析 / Explanation
B. Why: She writes on 20 August, before 1 September, so she qualifies for the 10 percent discount on the $140 pass mentioned in the article, making $126; $140 is the full price.
195.What is indicated about the express trains?
AThey run on weekends.
BThey do not stop at Millbrook.
CThey cost more than regular trains.
DThey allow passengers to bring bicycles.
解析 / Explanation
B. Why: The schedule note says express trains “do not stop at Millbrook”; they run on weekdays only, cost the same as regular trains, and nothing is said about bicycles.

Dear Mr. Taufa,
I am writing about your upcoming workshop. Unfortunately, the instructor for Project Management Essentials, Kai Robertson, has been called away on urgent business, so we have had to move the workshop to Saturday, 3 May. The time and location will remain the same. Mr. Robertson sends his apologies and is looking forward to meeting the group on the new date.
If the new date is not convenient, you may transfer to our Writing for Business workshop instead, or receive a full refund of the fee for that workshop, even though it is now less than ten days before the original date. No additional payment would be required for the transfer. Please let me know your choice by 25 April. Your request for vegetarian meals has been noted and will apply on whichever date you attend.
We look forward to seeing you. As a reminder, please bring the required equipment to your second workshop on 24 May.
Kind regards,
Emma Whitfield
Registration Coordinator
196.What is indicated about Brightpath workshops?
AParticipants are served a meal.
BThey are held on weekdays.
CThey take place online.
DThey are taught by a single instructor.
解析 / Explanation
A. Why: The brochure says the fee “includes lunch”; all workshops are on Saturdays at a training center, so they are neither weekday nor online events.
197.Why did Mr. Taufa pay $442?
AHe registered before a deadline.
BHe registered for more than one workshop.
CHis company is an official Brightpath partner.
DHe asked for a vegetarian lunch.
解析 / Explanation
B. Why: He signed up for two $260 workshops (form), and the brochure gives 15% off for two or more: $520 minus 15% is $442. Nothing mentions an early-registration deadline.
198.What is the main purpose of the e-mail?
ATo announce a schedule change
BTo confirm a payment
CTo introduce a new instructor
DTo request dietary information
解析 / Explanation
A. Why: Ms. Whitfield writes to say the Project Management workshop has been moved to 3 May; the instructor is mentioned only as the reason for the change.
199.What is suggested about the refund offered in the e-mail?
AIt will be paid by check within a week.
BIt covers both of Mr. Taufa’s workshops.
CIt is an exception to Brightpath’s usual policy.
DIt will be given as credit toward a future workshop.
解析 / Explanation
C. Why: Under the brochure’s policy, cancellations less than ten days before a workshop get only a credit, but the e-mail offers a full refund “even though it is now less than ten days” before the original date. The refund is only for Project Management Essentials, not both workshops, and it is a full refund, not a credit.
200.What will Mr. Taufa need to bring on 24 May?
AA printed registration form
BA company credit card
CA packed lunch
DA portable computer
解析 / Explanation
D. Why: The 24 May workshop is Introduction to Web Analytics, for which the brochure says participants must bring a laptop; lunch is included in the fee.
